Injury Prevention Initiative for Africa (IPIFA) was founded as a network of individuals and institutions involved in violence and injury prevention on the African continent in 1997.
The network was finally incorporated in Uganda as a Non-governmental Agency in 2002 to champion injury and violence prevention work in Africa by among others, promoting the development of the continent’s capacity for injury prevention and control.
The organization currently has membership from 12 African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Nigeria. The Injury Control Centre Uganda (ICC-U) was designated as the Secretariat for IPIFA.
