The ICC-U addresses injury in its broadest scope, in a scientific, sustainable, collaborative and political manner with the guiding principles of equity and integrity.

2010 Safekids International Conference
Safekids Uganda together with Injury Control Center-Uganda (ICC-U) carried out an observational survey on children going to nursery school (Pre-primary) to assess the risk factors associated with child passengers versus child pedestrians regarding road traffic incidents. Of the 3005 children observed from a total of 38 nursery schools, the children were noted to use three means of transport; (48.4%) walked to school, (40.1%) used vehicles, and (11.8%) used motorcycles.

Launch of Child Injury Prevention Report
Injury is one of the main killers of children thought the world and its responsible for 900,000 deaths in children and younger people under the age of 18 years each year (WHO Report, 2008). According to ICC-U community survey, the top three severe causes of injury among urban children less than 20 years in Uganda are road traffic (50%), falls (14%) and burns (11%). ICC-U’s hospital based surveillance (2005) indicates that 4.1% of all road traffic incidents are among children less than 6 years.
